Self-hosted · Echo Show 8

Every screen in the house, from one dashboard.

ShowRunner turns a rooted Echo Show 8 into a display you control. A thin Android app shows one full-screen page; a server on your LAN decides what it shows, so you design screens in a browser and never touch the device again.

An Echo Show 8 running ShowRunner: a large clock, date and greeting on black beside a violet panel with the current temperature, conditions and a three-day forecast.

Features

Built for one household, done properly.

Quick start

Running in a few minutes.

  1. Run the server

Grab the compose file, set ADMIN_PASSWORD in .env, and start it.

    curl -fsSLO https://raw.githubusercontent.com/notglossy/show-runner/main/docker-compose.yml
    curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/notglossy/show-runner/main/.env.example -o .env
    docker compose up -d
  2. Prepare the display

Enable adb once and install the app from the latest release. The device setup guide covers every step.

  3. Claim it and make screens

Enter the pairing code in the dashboard. The display starts on the Default screen; edit it or write your own.
